Mother Goose

This month our Field Trip Friday was a big hit with all of our SMART START friends. Mother Goose came to visit! The children love preparing for their on site fields trip by putting on their SMART START t-shirts and smiles. Mother Goose engaged the children by telling classic nursery rhymes, singing songs, having the children get up and dance and putting on a puppet show. The children sang along, danced together while holding hands, and played happily with the assortment of props that Mother Goose brought. SMART START was filled with the sound of laughter and chatter throughout the day!

We loved having Mother Goose and the children learned so much! Be sure to ask your child about what songs and nursery rhymes they learned. This is a great way to engage your little one and continue the learning process at home! Here's a classic to help get you and your child started...

Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall,
Humpty Dumpty had a great fall.
All the King's horses, and all the King's men,
Couldn't put Humpty together again.

Experts In literacy and child development have discovered that
if children know eight nursery rhymes by the time they're
four years old, they're usually among the best readers
by the time they're eight.

Happy Birthday, Dr. Seuss

Our Smart Start learners loved celebrating Dr. Seuss' birthday. Emma and Isla even dressed the part as Thing 1 and Thing 2. They looked adorable. Dr. Seuss continues to bring joy to people of all ages. The children enjoyed listening to One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish, The Cat in the Hat and Green Eggs and Ham. The illustrations hold their attention and bring life to each page.

Smart Start friends worked on a Dr. Seuss themed art project inspired by The Cat in the Hat. The children loved covering their hands in paint and making handprints to create Thing 1 and Thing 2. Handprint art is a lot of fun. You can make just about anything using a handprint or footprint while making memories. Their hands and feet are only little for so long!

Following reading Green Eggs and Ham, The children, Miss Francesca and I made green eggs and ham for lunch! The children thought this was a special treat and quite funny.

Happy Birthday, Dr. Seuss! We thank you for providing us with lots of giggles and inspiring us to think outside of the box and be ourselves!
